Boss Hawg’s

Boss Hawgs Bar ‘N’ Grill

For a Saturday morning hangover cure, Boss Hawg’s is tops! The roomy parking lot out front was appreciated, given the location near a busy intersection. A tad elusive, but something about the building façade had us feeling nostalgic for the restaurants of our youth. It was impossible to decide if it looks more like a Vip’s, a Sizzler or a Rax, but we felt warm and fuzzy about it all the same.

We arrived at Boss Hawg’s at 10am and the joint was already jumping with a ton of regulars companionably watching “the game”. Like a magnet we were drawn to the upper level where a charming garden window seating area lined with booths overlooks the parking lot. Plenty of TVs in the place and a ton of taps – I counted 15 with an even-ish mix of craft to crap and points in between.

Ann was our server/bartender who held the whole place down by herself and never once appeared the least bit flustered. She just glided from table to table. So glad we followed her menu advice and got the cheesesteak sandwich, the 2-hot dog meal (with chili, of course) and the 2-plate chicken fried steak breakfast. Plus poppers, because, well, poppers.

Every plate was enormous and delicious, with the cheesesteak being a real standout as were the fries. Prices are more than reasonable for the quantity and quality of the food. Drinks are seriously stiff, so beware and order some sustenance to sop up the booze before toddling off.

Our car was endangered more than once by stumbling patrons traversing the parking lot. Let’s hope they were walking home or taking the bus. Not sure I would chance visiting at night, I suspect things might get a bit rough in this part of town, but daytime was fine. The subterranean bathroom is, shall we say, best avoided.
