The Korner Pocket Bar
What a comfortable, friendly and thoughtful place! Not words I commonly use to describe a dive, but this is Rachel’s bar and that’s how she does it. How considerate of them to open at 7am! Too bad there is no breakfast on offer, but there is a menu full of tasty treats including “the best” hot dog, served with the onions placed thoughtfully on the bottom “so they don’t fall out”. I guess technically hot dogs could be breakfast? Ugh, I’d have to be pretty hung over to even consider that.
We came in on a late Wednesday morning to grab a drink and some fried delights. Cozy, with just the right balance of cleanish dirty that avoids that lingering industrial strength cleaner smell. The juke box plays classic rock, they have 4 craft beers, 1 cider plus 5 crap beers on tap and a nice selection of nostalgic PBR memorabilia graces the walls. It’s also kinda sportsy, but not over the top.
On a midweek morning there was a constellation of regulars and us, but may be a different story on game days. Plenty of video poker machines and 2 pool tables. Wednesday is well drink special day, so hefty greyhounds were on order during our visit, but they have other fun specials 7 days a week too. Bathroom is tiny but tidy. They pay attention to the details here and it feels like a well-cared for and well-loved place. Nice.
